Big Sky Halltree being finished in the Georgia workshop — white oak seat
Handcrafted in Georgia · Since day one

One workshop.
One small team.
One piece at a time.

We don’t warehouse, we don’t drop-ship, and we don’t outsource to Wisconsin or Pennsylvania or anywhere else. Every mudroom halltree, locker, and entryway bench we sell is handcrafted in our Athens, Georgia workshop by the same small team — and when you call, you’re talking to the person building yours.

The workshop

We built this shop to build furniture
that actually lasts.

I’m Chris. I started The Mudroom Company because I was tired of watching people spend thousands on “custom” mudroom furniture that showed up flat-packed in a box, built on an overseas assembly line, and fell apart inside of three years. So I started building the kind of mudroom furniture I’d want in my own home — domestic hardwood frames, cabinet-grade plywood boxes, soft-close everything, painted the color you actually want.

Every piece that ships from our shop was built here, by me or the small team I work with. No warehouse. No subcontractors you’ve never heard of. When you call 706.512.6856, you’re talking to the person who will pick out your plywood, cut your frame, and sign off on the paint before it goes on the truck.

That’s the difference between buying from a warehouse and buying from a workshop. You’re not a ticket number here. You’re the reason we come in tomorrow.

“The quality is exactly what you’d expect from a small American workshop. You can tell it was built by someone who cared.”

What Georgia-made means

Not a sticker.
An entire way of working.

A lot of “American-made” furniture is assembled here from imported parts. That’s not what this is. Here’s what actually happens between the wood and the delivery truck.

Domestic hardwood

Maple and poplar faceframes from US mills — not imported MDF with a printed wood look. The material you see and touch is real American hardwood, hand-selected at the rack.

One shop. Zero drop-ship.

Every piece is cut, assembled, and finished in our Georgia workshop. No “we partner with.” No “we network of craftsmen.” One shop, one team, one standard.

The builder picks up the phone

Chris — the founder and lead craftsman — is the number on the site. Ask him about grain, about lead time, about how the Iron Ore will look next to your Revere Pewter trim. He knows, because he’s the one painting it.

The practical difference

I’ve bought from three of the big catalog brands. This is the first piece that feels like it was made by somebody. You can tell the difference.

Georgia-made mudroom furniture, from the workshop floor

The Mudroom Company builds every halltree, mudroom locker, and entryway bench in a single workshop in Georgia. Our frames are domestic maple and poplar from US mills. Our boxes are cabinet-grade plywood — the same material high-end kitchen cabinets use — not the particleboard most “American-made” furniture actually contains. Our paint is applied in-house, one coat at a time, to whatever Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, or Behr color you send us. Nothing is outsourced.

Why Georgia, specifically

Georgia gives us three things a furniture maker needs: access to Southern hardwood mills, lower overhead than New England or West Coast shops (which means more of your budget goes into the piece, not the rent), and a moderate climate that’s kind to wood during curing and finishing. Our competitors in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Amish Country build good work too — but none of them match our combination of cabinet-grade hardwood construction with free fully-assembled shipping nationwide.

American-made doesn’t mean American-assembled

A lot of furniture marketed as “made in USA” is actually imported in pieces and screwed together at a warehouse stateside. That’s not what we do. The Franklin Halltree, the Dunhaven, the Bramble Nook Bench — every one of them was cut, joined, sanded, primed, painted, and inspected in our Athens, Georgia workshop. The person building yours is the same person who’ll answer when you call.
